There's always something a bit sad about a car being crushed down into a cube of scrap metal. This beautiful film, helmed by Pulse Films directors The Rest, takes that sadness, multiplies it by melancholy and sends it straight to the (heart)breakers yard.
The Rest, aka Alex Motlhabane and Lewis Levi, sensitively direct Young as she sings the story of a failed affair. Some relationships become inextricably linked to certain places, objects or things, and in this story it’s a red car that becomes a motif of misery.
Starting at the end, the film brilliantly mounts to a crescendo of emotion as it ends at the beginning, recalling the happy times the couple had in the motor, back when love was all rosie.
