The multidisciplinary artist Zohar Dvir joins Greatcoat Studio – a new animation, digital and interactive division of Greatcoat Films

It will work with new and upcoming animators and filmmakers working with stop motion, hand-drawn and digital animation, as well as artists producing virtual reality and augmented reality.

Dvir creates both digital animation and interactive work, inspired by some of the bigger questions of philosophy and psychology. Her distinctive animation style is self-taught, and blends two and three-dimensional elements as well as a healthy dose of surrealism. Dvir has created music videos, games, installations and animated short films, including her recent piece, the tragi-comic Mercury’s Retrograde, which was recently awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick and featured in Creative Review.

Also joining the Greatcoat Studio roster are animators Dani Marsh and Francesca De Bassa, as well as creative technologist Pierre Tardif. Tardif works across AR, VR and machine learning, with recent projects including the backgrounds for Bree Runway’s Damn Daniel music video and the coding behind the visuals for Django Django’s Spirals MGMT remix video.

“Greatcoat Studio will offer brands the chance to work with artists and animators creating striking animated and digital work,” says Greatcoat Head of Production Sandra Spethmann. “Our roster features promising new artists that span a range of new and traditional disciplines, from hand-made and crafted work through to cutting edge digital methods that push the boundaries of what’s possible.”

“Greatcoat have always worked with animation and technology, from a Sigrid augmented reality video, to creating interactive content for the huge LED screens that framed the stage of a Metallica world tour,” says Greatcoat founder Simon Oxley. “It’s the same spirit of collaboration, and mixing media and technology, that we want to bring to Greatcoat Studio's roster.”
