Self-healing paint, a technology pioneered by Nissan, makes a car essentially scratch-proof. This interactive iPad ad by TBWAG1 Paris, which appeared in the tablet edition of the The Economist, mirrors the paint’s actual qualities. The characteristic side-swiping motion used to navigate the iPad has a different function when users view the ad. Instead of rolling through the ad to the next page, the motion causes scratches to appear on the pictured car. These scratches then disappear seconds later.
