Ads of the Week: 19 December 2014
Two styles of animation and some sweary festive work for a toothbrush makes up this week's Ads of the Week.
It has to be said, it's been a relatively slow week chez shots, with regards high-calibre creative advertising output.
The week has felt a bit like an elongated Boxing Day, where the fun stuff has all happened, you've enjoyed all the big presents you received the day before, have filled up on some choice morsels and now you're just waiting for New Year's Eve so you can get the party started again.
But it's not all doom and gloom; there have been some brilliant pieces of cut-through work this week.
PES Dispenses
Oscar-nominated, stop-frame maestro PES was back with another fantastically inventive film that takes everyday objects and reimagines them for other weird and wonderful uses. In this film, called Submarine Sandwich, a deli-owner creates an amazing, sport-themed sandwich with a difference.
A Colourful Trip
We're not entirely sure what this intriguing, beautiful but unusually psychedelic promo for Noah Benjamin Lennox, also known as Panda Bear, means, but it had us hooked from start to finish. Titled Boys Latin, directors Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch have created a music colour-drenched film that follows a women's hike across a magical coastal tide pool.
F*ck, that's good
Our only bona fide commercial of the week is from Publicis London and director Stephen Pipe for Oral-B. Keeping with the Christmas theme and set to the strains of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, the spot is punctuated by bleeped out swear words as the various characters utter a variety of expletives in a selection of circumstances. It's a funny, and different, approach to both Christmas - and toothbrush - advertising.
