Colombian agency Sístole have worked with news magazine Semana to create Help Font, a font that used design to draw attention to the 11,500 victims of landmines in the country.
With the Colombian news media and political system seen as ignoring the problem that puts the country just behind Afghanistan on the list of most landmine-related injuries, the agency needed a campaign that would draw attention to the issue even as other issues were being discussed.
With this in mind, they created a font reminiscent of the injuries caused by landmines, with letters mutilated then rebuilt with elements from other fonts:
After appearing within Semana in articles talking about the Colombian landmine crisis, the typography was taken for use in other magazines and websites after the agency created a website from which the font could be downloaded when you donate to the cause (which you can access here).
In fact, the success of this campaign led to the government passing a bill that could see all of Colombia's landmines cleared within three years, really putting the 'help' in Help Font.
