Gorillaz & E.ON Collab on Solar Powered Music Vid
Gorillaz collaborate with E.ON to create a music studio and music video that is entirely solar powered.
In We Got the Power, a video for a track from the Damon Albarn-fronted band's new album Humanz, E.ON create a video featuring thousands of toys, lights and drones, all powered by E.ON solar panels and battery storage.
Directed by Noah Harris of Blinkink for Engine, the video starts with footage of lines of E.ON solar panels and battery storage packs. It's when the sun goes down, however, that the magic really starts, with the track kicking in and the toys, gadgets and gizmos lighting up, including a giant lucky cat. Then, plastic toy versions of the band enter the video and we get to see the whole amazing tableau:
The video is just one part of a larger solar scheme between the band and brand. Following the video launch, they are to unveil the 'E.ON Kong Solar Studio', described by E.ON as 'a solar and battery storage powered creative space for music projects' which will 'come to life at night and provide aspiring music artists the opportunity to create new tracks' which will appear on a dedicated website.
Gorillaz bassist and fictional character Murdoc Niccals 'said' of the project, "Gorillaz has partnered up with E.ON – the leading eggheads in solar storage – to create a spanking new studio that not only lets us create more mind-blowing music, it also saves the planet. E.ON do batteries as well, meaning we can keep banging out killer tunes even after dark.” Shout out to the uncredited copywriter who has the job of giving a voice to an anthropomorphised monkey bandleader.
