In a career of over three decades, dozens of brands have realised one thing; if you want your campaign to have a certain sort of star-studded elegance, then Mario Testino is the man for the job. To get you ready for his Cannes Lions talk (20th June, 11:00 - 11:45, Lumière Theatre), we look at the Peruvian photographer's best ever work in advertising, including campaigns for Burberry, Mercedes Benz and Huawei. Plus that banned ad starring some topiaried pubes...

Gucci, Public Enemy (2003)

Although not banned like some other sites have written, Public Enemy (that's public with an 'l'...) has gone down in history as the peak of the Tom Ford-era sexualised adverts for Gucci.

D&G: Go Heist (2008)

An atypical ad for Testino, this crime caper sees a criminal couple try to make a run for it with a bag full of D&G watches and jewels.

Mercedes Benz: CLS Shooting Break, 2012

You're not a supermodel until you've been shot by Testino. Joan Smalls joins the pantheon with this Pygmalion and Bride of Frankenstein-inspired shoot.

Met Gala Instagram Takeover for Vogue, 2014

The Met Gala is perhaps the biggest event in the fashion calendar (the fashion Cannes, if you will), so who better than its biggest photographer to offer candid snaps of the event? That was Vogue's idea when they hired Testino to takeover their Instagram, offering us an insider's view starring Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and more.

Burberry: My Burberry, 2014

Kate Moss is to Mario Testino as Edie Sedgwick is to Andy Warhol, or Robert De Niro to Martin Scorsese; she is the muse who encourages the artist to do their best work. This 2014 launch of Burberry's My Burberry scent, however, was a real coup, bringing together Moss and then hot new thing Cara Delevigne in matching trenches.

Burberry Live Snapchat Campaign, 2015

Speaking of his Instagram takeover and Burberry work, Testino followed on the success of the former with a live Snapchat campaign to launch their Spring collection. A first of its kind for Snapchat that has been since oft-imitated.

Stuart Weitzman: Gisele Bundchen Dancing, 2015

Gisele doing some slightly naff disco dancing à la Madonna circa Hung Up. What's not to love?

Ciroc: Blue Steel, 2016

Although Zoolander 2 is by and large a cultural moment we have done our best to completely forget about, it did see Testino breaking into bottle design and shooting Ben Stiller's model characters in a case of life-imitating-art.

Huawei P9 Print Campaign, 2016

As well as directing his own commercials, Testino has historically provided great print campaigns to run alongside film ads like Huawei's first major Western ad starring ScaJo and Henry Cavill. Plus, just us getting just a hint of Diana from Scarlett with her short hair?

Dove: Real Women, 2017

It's not all celebrities...well, OK, it's mostly celebrities, hence why this campaign, with Testino shooting dozens of real women, was so fascinating.
