Although hardly mentioned as such, British electronic band Goldfrapp have consistently been one of the best music video bands working today.
From the sexy rollercoaster of Twist to the doctor dogs of Number 1 and the hopping mad Happiness, they have consistently found breathtaking visuals to match their equally great music. Oh, and one of their videos features Alison Goldfrapp riding a mirrorball horse, which you can't say about many music videos.
Their latest, Everything is Never Enough, taken from their latest album Silver Eye, continues this beguiling track record. As all the videos from this album have been, this video is directed by Alison Goldfrapp herself, with production by LEZ. In it, nude men, covered only by desert dust or camera modesty, are contrasted by Goldfrapp dressed in brightly coloured couture, or a black number complete with a Beyoncé-in-Formation-style hat. All set against the barren valleys of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.
In a statement that coupled the films premiere on video site NOWNESS, Goldfrapp said of the choice of location (which also featured in the video for Silver Eye lead single Anymore), "volcanic and desert landscapes are the undefinable. They are life and death. Primal and mystical. They are the portal to the soul," while NOWNESS themselves noted how the video "toy[s] with the premise of identity from a spontaneous explosion of mortal considerations."
