It’s hard to feel optimistic as 2017 draws to a close. Threats of nuclear war, Trump in power and ongoing terror-related incidents instil little confidence in our future.

So you can’t blame BBD Perfect Storm for trying to alleviate the negativity with a fun campaign, aimed at spreading love and peace this Christmas.

The agency has teamed up with Stop Hate UK, a charity designed to reduce racial harassment, to launch Missile-Toe.

The team attached a twig of mistletoe to a weather balloon and hurled it into the sky, hoping it would at least metaphorically help to calm recent tensions. Missile-Toe was launched 115,000 feet – 22 miles above Earth and into Space.

“Considering the escalating tensions between the US and North Korea over the past year, it felt like this could be our last Christmas ever,” says Perfect Storm’s creative director Seb Hill. “We wanted to give peace a chance and launch love not war. Our orbiting ‘Missile-toe’ is the perfect counter-strike.”

Launched today, social media users are being urged to share the Non-Nuclear Christmas campaign online by using the #LaunchTheLove hashtag. And for every video share, Perfect Storm will donate 10p to the charity.

Forgot kissing someone beneath the mistletoe this Christmas… spread the love and peace radiating from that orbiting Missile-Toe.
