Have Hope for 2018 Says Facebook with #HopefulFor Campaign
Facebook instills hope around the world with its social-led campaign and film, World of Hopes, which asks real people to reveal their hopes for 2018.
January can be a tough time of year; it's grey, gloomy and you're packing a little extra weight after Christmas. But Facebook has assured us that we should still hold out for hope during these seemingly desperate times.
The social media platform unveiled a new film, World of Hopes, in which real people around the world reveal what their hopes and dreams are for the year ahead. It aired during the Gloden Globes, aligning nicely with the #MeToo movement that dominated the night.
Some hopes are abstract, yet others are personal or professional-focussed. For instance, one man says, "I have a girlfriend. I hope we stay together" while another coyly reveals, "I hope they can see me for who I am," and an elderly gentleman adds, "I hope they understand what I fought for," perhaps referring to his time spent in battle.
The film, created by Facebook's inhouse creative team The Factory and helmed by Gus Van Sant, forms part of the brand's larger Hopes campaign, which was launched by its COO Sheryl Sandberg in Decmeber when she asked for her Facebook followers to share what they are hopeful for in the new year.
Already 13 million people have submitted their #HopefulFor thoughts for 2018 and the campaign has also gained the support of actress Elizabeth Banks (Facebook declaration below), philanthropist Melinda Gates and football star Dwight Freeney, among others.
