Director Erika Zorzi, who currently works alongside Matteo Sangalli as Mathery, takes inspirational cues from both her heritage and the work that she can see around her.

Mathery is is currently represented by 1stAveMachine, and both Erika and Matteo are Italians living in Brooklyn. In her direction, she takes simple, everyday life and objects and injects a sense of humor and a surreal aesthetic art direction.

Bruno Munari

I discovered Bruno Munari’s work during my studies in Product Design in Milan. Munari's approach, humor, and playfulness means a lot to me, influencing my work in design and photography. As an Italian Artist and inventor, he was “simply” the Leonardo from the 50s, a man who altered the perception of visual art, industrial and graphic design, and sculpture… Not to mention that his work with children was genius and his theories are still applied today.

Frederico Fellini

We all know the impact of Fellini’s movies, but what I look with extreme admiration, inspiration, and curiosity are his depictions of women and their characters. His early works with wife Giulietta Masina show real sensitivity and complexity, while some other movies reveal and condemn women as tragic victims of a superficial age. I just love how he built all these feminine characters, worked on their performances and aesthetics, styling the women to expand their reach in a surreal and oneiric way that's still grounded in reality.

Edgardo Gimenez

I have recently discovered his work and thought about sharing it. Gimenez started with graphic and poster design full of clever compositions, vibrant colors, and psychedelic patterns. He then became a set designer and later went on to become an architect. I kind of feel that if I would ever be asked to design a building his work is similar to what I would come up with!
