Cannes 2014 Roundup 1 - The Winners
We take a look at some of the Cannes Lions 2014 Film and Film Craft winners.
So that's that. The Cannes Lions Festival has closed its Croisette doors for the year and the gongs have all been handed out. The final day saw the Film, Film Craft and Branded Content awards distributed to the creative community at large… with a couple of controversial decisions thrown in.
The Film category (consisting of 2838 entries), shortlisted 280 entries of which 13 were awarded Gold, 29 Silver and 61 Bronze Lions. The jury, led by Amir Kassaei, Chief Creative Officer, DDB Worldwide, also awarded two Film Grand Prix – one in the TV/Cinema category to Adam&EveDDB's Harvey Nichols ad 'Sorry I Spent it on Myself' (giving the campaign the staggering accolade of picking up FOUR separate Grand Prix – Film, Intergrated, Press and Promo & Activation), the other in the Internet Film or Other Screens category Forsman & Bodenfors amazing 'The Epic Split' for Volvo Trucks.
Popular winners included the hard-hitting 'Mistakes' for the NZTA (check out our interview with the director here), Dentsu's amazing 'Sound Of Honda' film about Ayrton Senna and W+K's disturbing Old Spice series, including the oft-forwarded 'Momsong'.
Gold Lions were grabbed by agencies Adam&EveDDB London, Wieden+Kennedy New York, Santo Buenos Aires, Wieden+Kennedy Portland, BBH New York, Leo Burnett Dubai, Clemenger BBDO Wellington, Durable Goods Los Angeles, Barton F. The Film Craft category, 2073 entries were received, but there was no Grand Prix handed out, to the surprise of many. Brian Carmody, CEO, Chief Creative Officer, Smuggler, presided over the Film Craft jury who shortlisted 135 entries and awarded 16 Gold, 22 Silver and 28 Bronze Lions.
Amongst the Gold winners were the hilariously well-observed HBO Go series of commercials from O Positive Films, the amazing complex 'Bob Dylan- Like A Rolling Stone' interactive film from Pulse and Interlude (you can see our Q&A on the film here) and, obviously, the Enya-backed gymnastics of JCVD in Volvo's 'Epic Split'.
