Bodyform #wombstories

I’ve just watched the film again and, to be honest, it left me with a tear in my eye. Work of this calibre makes me proud of what our industry is capable of. The genius touch is using both live-action and animation to share real honesty and sensitivity in equal parts. The music carries the narrative beautifully throughout and builds in such a way it offers so much hope, which works wonderfully with the idea. Grand Prix material all the way.

Macmillan Tender Yet Tough

This film literally is what its title suggests. I cannot remember the last time I cried as much watching an ad. The craft is beyond incredible. The direction and editing is flawless. The music pulls on my heart strings. And the moments captured are ever so real. The little girl touching her father’s scar. I’m in bits. The surgeon doing robotics. I’m laughing as I wipe away the streaming tears and blow my nose. This film is raw. It touches a nerve and takes me back to moments of lost loved ones due to Cancer; a moving reminder of what angels every Macmillan nurse, doctor, and carer are.

Disclosure My High

What a dark video this is. Excellent filmmaking, performances, editing, casting, make-up, wardrobe, locations, the list goes on. Most videos today are all a bit ‘same old’. This has you glued from beginning to end. What a high.

Childline Nobody is Normal

Another stellar piece of work with incredible insight and execution, which I’m sure will make a real difference to thousands of kids’ lives. Catherine Prowse’s beautiful animation and storytelling is pure gold. I would expect to see this pick up in both idea and craft categories. Oh, and getting Radiohead’s Creep is a masterstroke.

Marmite Dynamite

A Marmite brief has always been a golden opportunity, with the agency and brand winning tons of gongs for its creativity and inventiveness along the way. This brilliant ambient, outdoor campaign to launch fiery chilli Marmite is bang on brand and, as always, incredibly playful and memorable. It’s worth pointing out that not many people would have seen one of these posters for real, thanks to lockdown, which demonstrates the power of outdoor and the potential PR you can gain with original and engaging thinking. Love it.

Burberry Festive

I could watch this film over and over again. This wonderful reimagination of Singing in the Rain is just brilliant. And yes, it’s not the first time the song has been used. VW did it superbly back in 2005 for their Golf GTI but, once again, the track is another original updated and I love it. The choreography is fresh, the direction is mega and the effects are just epic.

Andi Goes

Andi Goes isn’t just a title about the character in the book, it’s also a clever anagram of Diagnose, which this brilliant story book and, more importantly, educational tool is all about. Not only can it be used to detect and diagnose early signs of dyslexia in children, it also acts as a fable, encouraging children to embrace what makes them different. And, even better still, the book’s success means it’s making its way into many schools across the country. It’s one of those ‘Why hasn’t this been done earlier?’ thoughts, and demonstrates perfectly what the power of creativity can do to make a real difference in the world.
