Imposter has signed acclaimed Canadian director Jamie Webster for exclusive representation in the United States, expanding its roster of visionary talent with a filmmaker celebrated for emotional depth and technical versatility.

Founder of Toronto-based production company Common Good, Webster brings a multidisciplinary approach to storytelling, rooted in real-world experience and a sharp curiosity for culture, performance and visual craft.

“From competitive ski racing to cage fighting in the Cayman Islands, Jamie Webster is easily one of the most fascinating and well-rounded people we know,” says Avtar Kay, managing director at Imposter. “His background fuels a filmmaking style that’s both visually striking and emotionally grounded. Whether he’s capturing quiet human moments or dynamic worlds, he brings a nuanced, personal understanding to every frame. He’s a storyteller with soul, and we’re lucky to have him.”

Webster’s US signing builds on an acclaimed commercial career in Canada, where he’s developed a reputation for sophisticated, performance-driven work and distinctive world-building. He has directed award-winning campaigns for brands such as Salomon, Canada Goose and McDonald’s, and continues to explore new territory through genre, tone and format.

“The creative energy at Imposter immediately felt right,” says Webster. “Avtar truly champions directors’ visions, and the intentionally small roster sealed the deal for me. Each voice is distinct and thoughtfully curated. Their flexible structure creates space to produce great work across different paradigms, something I really value as a director who thrives on non-traditional creative challenges.”

Webster’s creative versatility extends to high-concept live action, animation, VFX and even stop-motion. According to Mercedes Allen-Sarria, executive producer at Imposter, that adaptability makes him an invaluable addition.

“I’m always looking for directors who can flex across disciplines, and Jamie can do it all,” says Allen-Sarria. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he could pull it off while running a marathon backwards with a drone in tow, he’s that unique. We’re genuinely excited to partner with someone who brings this level of craft and curiosity to both live-action and experiential work.”

Drawn to projects that intersect culture, advertising and art, Webster’s commercial work often taps into contemporary aesthetics and subcultures, especially in fashion and design. His experience in performance direction has been shaped by years of mentorship with industry masters such as Judith Weston and John Strasberg.

“My most fulfilling work often emerges from situations where brands look to tap into culture in smart, stylish ways,” he says. “There’s more creative freedom and more room for meaningful collaboration.”

His influences range from Persona and My Own Private Idaho to Streetwise and Pee-wee’s Playhouse, blending poetic sophistication with a playful edge. He credits much of his inspiration to time spent in galleries, museums and reference libraries, spaces that spark imagination beyond traditional cinematic boundaries.

Currently, Webster is developing a collaboration with a prominent fashion designer and one of his favourite shoe brands, details to be announced.

With Imposter now representing him in the US, Webster is poised to bring his emotionally charged, genre-defying filmmaking to a wider audience, and to a new chapter of creative exploration.
