Known for her striking aesthetics, evocative narratives, and ability to blur the lines between fashion, beauty, and raw human emotion, Vera Braga is a perfect fit for the creative force that is Fight Gravity. They welcome such a visually dynamic and emotionally intuitive director to their roster.

For Braga, filmmaking is more than just crafting beautiful visuals, it’s about creating worlds that don’t exist in real life. ‘I believe a director’s style is a reflection of their background, who you are and where you come from,’ she explains. ‘Growing up surrounded by art, I was constantly stimulated by photography, painting, and design. I’ve always been deeply visual, and I translate that into my work by imagining entire worlds before bringing them to life on screen.’

Braga’s inspirations pull from across time and culture, blending 18th-century French elegance with modern urban life, inspired by artists like Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman, and Martin Parr. She describes her work as a fusion of sophistication and edge, balancing cinematic beauty with deep, emotional storytelling.

This balance is especially evident in her fashion and beauty films, where she seeks to bring authenticity and depth to an industry often focused on surface-level perfection. ‘Even in commercial work, I look for ways to push beyond the brief, to find the humanity in the frame and create something that resonates emotionally.’

Braga thrives on challenges, whether it’s pushing the boundaries of fashion filmmaking or crafting emotionally raw documentary-style storytelling. She cites her Danone/YoPro campaign as one of her most rewarding, as it required working with real athletes and capturing their personal struggles in a way that felt honest and powerful.

"My goal was to move beyond a standard commercial and create a narrative with a real emotional arc, showcasing their hardest moments before revealing them as champions. It required building trust, listening deeply, and creating a space where they felt safe to be vulnerable."

For Braga, joining Fight Gravity felt like the right move from the start. "I immediately connected with the team’s bold creative energy and diverse roster. There’s a real passion for storytelling here, and I know this is a space where I can push my creativity further."

"Vera has the ideal combination of being highly creative and driven but super open to ideas and ways of working. In an ever-more competitive industry where personalities count as much as portfolios, where the line between robot and human is barely perceptible, she is perfectly positioned to bring her ambitious visions to life," says Fight Gravity founder Paul Cheung.

As Braga continues to explore new frontiers in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle storytelling, she’s also eager to tackle projects that dive into mental health, women’s empowerment, and identity. "For me, filmmaking is about human connection. I want to tell stories that not only look stunning but also leave an impact."

With Braga now on board, Fight Gravity is set to bring a new level of artistry, emotion, and innovation to the world of commercial filmmaking. And if her past work is anything to go by, we can expect nothing less than breathtaking storytelling in the projects to come.
