First sessions announced for Out of the Box in LA
A deep dive into the wonder of weirdness and an all-female panel discussing the aftermath of Free The Work's closure; Out of the Box is back in LA and wants to start the debate.
After past events that have sparked friendly debates, inspired left-field ideas, and maybe even ruffled a few conventional industry feathers, Out of the Box is back in LA for another round of brain-tickling talks and straight-talking sessions.
Once again taking place at the Bike Shed in Downtown, this year’s line-up is sharpening its focus on shaking up the status quo, with interactive sessions designed to challenge, provoke, and - most importantly - offer real-world takeaways and inspiration aplenty.
The first two sessions to be announced are:
Weirdism: mastering the art of social rebellion
A normality crisis is currently permeating throughout the creative industries, and weirdness is the only way to drag ourselves out of it.
In this terrifying and hopeful talk, Amy Kean, CEO & Creative Director at Good Shout, and shots' own Culture Editor, will examine the history of the weird and strange, and why the world will only get better (and more creative) if we make life easier for outsiders.
Packed with wild theories, unexpected truths, and a hefty dose of hope, this talk will make you question the way you think, and explain why we all need to embrace the unconventional.

What’s next for women in advertising after Free The Work’s closure?
With Free The Work shutting its doors, what happens next for women and underrepresented talent in adland?
This powerhouse panel tackles how the industry can keep pushing for equity, rethink inclusive hiring, and ensure Free The Work’s impact doesn’t fade away.
Hosted by Jo Wallace, Global EDC at Jellyfish by day, founder of Good Girls Eat Dinner by night, the session brings together:
- Chloe Coover, Former Unity & Integration Manager, Free The Work
- Sevasti Buford, EP and Partner, JOJX
- Mah Farraz, Founder, Church Edit
Expect a straight-talking discussion on what needs to change, how to keep progress moving, and why diversity isn’t just a box-ticking exercise - it’s a business (and creative) necessity.
