How not to... be a feminist
In this month's instalment of How not to... Amy Kean talks to author Alison Phipps about how mainstream feminism can do more harm than good and whether we're stuck with social media's 'cycle of outrage'.
Last year Alison Phipps, Professor of Sociology at Newcastle University, published her book, Me, Not You: The Trouble with Mainstream Feminism.
The book focuses on the whiteness of the mainstream feminist movement and looks at how white women - especially white, middle class women - can sometimes use feminism for their own ends while ignoring the plight of less privileged women who took up the fight before them.
