Director Tom Prez and BOL have unveiled this thoughtful, tender, and beautifully stripped-back animation for LGBTQ+ affirming psychotherapy provider IHI Therapy, titled The Hoop.
Set against the gentle bustle of New York City’s subway, the story centres around one person’s quiet journey towards self-expression, brought to life by a vulnerable, fragmented voiceover as they choose to step into public life wearing bright orange hoops and a vibrant shade of lipstick.
Realised through simple, gestural forms in shades of purple, grey, and orange, the three-minute film is a fluid and honest reflection on identity, bravery, mental health, and the power of finding support in community.
