Multiple award-winning Director and filmmaker Karen Cunningham has joined the PRETTYBIRD roster for representation in the UK.

Cunningham has established a reputation for her transformative storytelling talent, ability to get great performances from her cast, and her award-winning work with clients as diverse as UNICEF, Barbie, Nivea, Liverpool FC and Kellogg’s.

Cunningham won three ‘Best New Director’ awards, a Silver Arrow, and Kinsale Sharks and Eurobest awards for her first film Wonderful World which she wrote and directed for the Half Moon theatre company, a charity that represents under privileged children. As well as establishing a career as a top director, Cunningham has used her voice to talk about the lack of female and under-represented directors.

Her work has been recognised by a Silver Lion at Cannes, and her Imagine the possibilities campaign for Barbie was ranked 60 in the Top 100 ads of all time by The Drum, while her Nivea ad was shortlisted for Ad of the year at the TV Visionary TV Arts awards 2023.

PRETTYBIRD UK Co-Founder and Executive Producer Juliette Larthe: “I have loved and been an admirer of Karen’s beautiful films for years, Karen’s talent in encapsulating emotion, a critical component within her myriad of skills in capturing performance, Karen deep dives into detail as she crafts each project so meticulously. She manages to shock and soothe in the same breath. I’m very excited and happy to be working with her.”

Before becoming a Director, Cunningham trained as an actress and worked as an Account Executive in advertising in the UK and Hong Kong. She co-founded production company Pink, which was voted production company of the year, with Campaign naming her as one of the Top five producers in London.
