Knucklehead announce the signing of director Minkie Spiro for global representation.

Spiro is an award winning and internationally recognised Film and TV Director and Executive Producer. Her perceptive and cinematic approach to storytelling, her unique visual language and ability to extract superlative performances from top cast has garnered her international awards, including nominations for BAFTA (Best New Director - Fiction) and the coveted Directors Guild of America.

As well as being able to tell big stories (Netflix’s huge new hit 3 Body Problem, their biggest budget Sci-Fi show ever), Spiro knows how to make people laugh (Dead to Me), can be masterfully cinematic (Fosse/Verdon), and can get the very best performances (Barry), not just from actors but from the whole crew.

An award-winning director whose versatility allows her to cross genre and change tone effortlessly, Spiro has directed critically acclaimed shows (Better Call Saul, The Deuce, Downton Abbey, Plot Against America) with many of her global hits winning multiple awards (Emmys, Golden Globes and Baftas).

Spiro studied Graphic Design at Central St. Martins School of Art in London, before starting out as a photographer where her work was internationally exhibited, then gaining her Masters in Film Directing from The Royal College of Art. It was here that her fascination with the human condition really began. Spiro’s short films and documentaries (Rat Women) garnered multiple awards (San Francisco Film Festival) before she carved out her place in film and television.

3 Body Problem (currently #1 Worldwide on Netflix), is an adaptation of a Hugo award-winning sci-fi trilogy, and is helmed by Game of Thrones creators and show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

Working with the likes of Dame Maggie Smith, Jim Carrey, Sam Rockwell, Michelle Williams, Toni Collette, Winona Ryder, Bill Hader and John Turturro to name a few, Spiro connects deeply with her cast, building immense trust and stand out performances and all with ease, charm and flair.

Spiro has just finished directing Toxic Town, a four-part limited series by Jack Thorne.

Knucklehead’s Tim Katz: “Minkie’s ability to shoot incredible film, capture amazing performances that are funny and sad in equal measure, handle massive visual effects, ‘A’ list actors and keep a wry sense of humour means that she is an almost perfect director to introduce to commercials.  All that and the fact that she’s a real laugh to work with means we couldn’t be happier to have her on board. The ride starts now.”

Minkie Spiro: “It is an honour to be joining Knucklehead, a huge bundle of talent and brilliance within the commercials world. I can’t wait to bring my directing skills to commercials, I love the art of capturing a story in bitesize form!”
