What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?

I loved the energy of DJ Snake - Disco Maghreb, directed by Elias Belkeddar, particularly because of a slow motion shot of a camel’s mouth.

What’s the first music video you remember being impressed by?

Philippe Katerine -  Louxor J’adore, it's such a great music video because it's so real. People seem to have stopped everything they were doing to come and party, it's like when the ice cream truck comes in town and all the kids come out, except it's adults who are genuinely having a great time.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?

Among contemporary film directors I love Paul Thomas Anderson, Ruben Östlund, Michel Gondry, mainly the unique atmosphere that these directors create in their films.

But I also get inspired by classics a lot: Ozu for composition, Terry Gilliam for rhythm, Fellini for powerful images.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Charles Aznavour - Parce que. A classic, perfect for being indoors in the winter.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

After Effects is pretty miraculous and is what allowed me to start making videos, because I made animated collages before I started directing. I still love working on after effects, like my last one for Papooz - None of this Matters Now.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?

Lil Nas X because his songs are so catchy, powerful and he is just completely free artistically.

I also love Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and Tyler, the Creator, let’s dream big!

How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?

I feel like quantity is just increasingly becoming more important than quality because of social media, so sometimes we focus too much on producing a lot of content and don’t have enough time to put in the attention that truly requires a project.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?

I am an optimist, so I want to believe that in the same way we are becoming more aware of the quality and authenticity of food nowadays, the same could happen to the film industry: producing fewer but better films.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

My feet look like they come from another planet.
