What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?

Benjamin Earl Turner - HEADSPACE/BENT directed by Abteen Bagheri.

It gave me some Dark Crystal vibes, which I loved as a kid, spun in a fresh way.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?

Ok guys, lots of “pick one” questions here. I’m a contrarian. Years of therapy haven’t shaken it out of me. I don’t think I can say one.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps

James Blake - Limit To Your Love

The Killers - When You Were Young

If you asked me the same question tomorrow I’d probably give you different ones.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?

Miranda July, Alfonso/Guillermo/Alejandro the trinity one in three persons, Sean Baker, Alex Garland, and Hiro Murai.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Music: Sego, Low, Amyl and The Sniffers, Cap'n Jazz, Rites of Spring, Lost Lander, Jon Hopkins.

Podcasts: The Emerald, Smartless.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

My favourite bit of tech that moves me around my little city in Provo, Utah is my 67 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40. It’s a time machine that takes me back to being a teen when drove my first car (also a FJ40). I was full of passion, excitement, and mischief. The world was my oyster.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?

Olivia Rodrigo and Cuco. They are a couple of bad ass latinos marching to the beat of their own drum.

How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?

It feels pretty similar to me. Wild, under funded, a place to experiment, a place of entry.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?

I don’t know. I hope there is room for music videos for many years to come.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

Here are a few, I’m sure there is one in there most people won’t know.

When I was in the 6th and 7th grade I secretly wanted to be a cholo, even though my friends were CBC (Country Boy Crips).

I went on a Mormon Mission in New Mexico.

I have another love: psychology/spirituality/NOSC all swirling around and mixed up with each other.
