Cheil's Biodegradable Food-Growing Carrier Bags
Cheil Germany unveil compostable carrier bags that come with fruit and vegetable seeds for Germany's Edeka.
With the plastics used to create products like clothes and carrier bags not decomposing for at least half a millennium, a number of agencies have developed biodegrade products in recent months. Following McCann Stockholm's work to create biodegradable fabrics for sportswear brand Houdini, Cheil Germany have created compostable carrier bags that break down in just 10 weeks for Scheck-In-Center, owned by German supermarket chain Edeka.
The FEEDitBAG also comes with fruit and vegetable seeds, allowing users to grow their own food from the bags in just a few months. Despite only running for a short time, the scheme has already reduced waste to the sum of 150,000 bags.
Alongside the bags, Cheil have also launched a website where people can learn more about the product and vote for what seeds will be included with the bags next.
Cheil Germany CCO Roland Rudolf said of the campaign, "Everybody is talking about alternatives for plastic, but the fruit and vegetable bags are still used everyday. We believe that if we emotionally touch consumers, we can change their behavior. And this is what FEEDitBAG does, because it is the first bag that gives life instead of taking it.”
