Nick Cave

I’ve always been a huge fan of interdisciplinary artist Nick Cave's work. The forms and textures he gives the human body as well as the ways in which these elements are combined with music and dance are brilliant. Two years ago, I went to see one of his installations at the Park Avenue Armory in NYC. It began with a beautiful choir and soon escalated with performers joining the enormous space and building sculptures of crazy, hybrid creatures to life. I just find Cave’s approach—delivering artistic expression and social commentary through spectacular, choreographed pieces—super inspiring.

teamLab

teamLab is an international art collective studio that creates immersive experiences by merging digital and physical environments with high-end compositions. The exhibitions they design often use massive video projections to create a dialogue between the natural world and technology. The audience feels like they’re stepping into the narrative which is the intention of every visual storyteller such as myself.

Iris van Herpen

Iris van Herpen isn’t just a fashion designer, she’s a real innovator. I’m fascinated by van Herpen’s affinity for multi-dimensional structures, non-traditional materials, alongside "underwater" and futuristic aesthetics. What inspires me the most is the complicated yet effortless movement of each piece. She also has a penchant for silhouette imagery which creates characters with stories, not just fancy and wearable gowns.

Es Devlin

Es Devlin is an artist and stage designer best known for building magical worlds for the likes of Broadway theater, Kanye West, Louis Vuitton, and many more. I love Ed's work because, in her stage content especially, she refers to light as a constructive medium used to manipulate depth perception. These optical illusions and practical effects also represent the infinite possibilities of physical space.
