Taking inspiration from Black icons of late nineties badassery, Lil Nas X teams up with his namesake Nas to create Rodeo, a Blade-meets-Matrix crossover full of pop-culture winks.
There are very few people who can pull off a fanged grill, and I’m here to attest that Lil Nas X is indeed one of the blessed few. Full of swagger and confidence, Lil Vamp X pushes the genre-bending further, taking country twang and injecting it with some old school hip hop. Without ever dropping his Gen Z style, we get people decked out in latex and lace, pulsing neon, and dripping blood.
In a dance sequence, Lil Nas X gets up in drag outfits and lets the camera do the work, and the editing from PRETTYBIRD makes the frame judder to the beat, creating a weird atmosphere that brings makes the song seem fully realized. Directed by Bradley & Pablo, the music video is an eccentric addition to the young singer’s production.
