There are some people who can't help themselves. That knee won't stop rising and falling. That foot won't stop tapping.

But what if those unconscious fidgeters are what's holding everything together, with them acting as human shock-absorbers? Bold director Romain Laurent explores that unusual avenue in this very short film featuring two people in a cafe and one always-moving leg.

"I’ve had the basic idea in mind for a bit and, after brainstorming with [co-director] Christina Jobe, we wrote this little scene. It seemed like it would be fun to create it, so we did," said Laurent.

Short films are a great experiment.

Laurent has recently directed another short film, and finds the process of creating personal projects freeing. "I guess [Focussed] is a really short film, or you could call it a comedy skit, or just a scene of life," he says. "Creating personal work helps me find what I really like to create in film, it allows to explore different ideas without the pressure or the constraints that come from a commissioned job. It also keeps me somewhat sane. I always try to emulate the energy of my art school days, when I would just make things, which always led to interesting work [and] short films are a great experiment, with a storyline or a concept, while also staying light production wise."
