Patience is a virtue in the court of the Kings Of Leon

In a slow-motion capture, 100,000 People stars Nashville dancer, Emma Morrison, as she moves over, and over, and over, and over.

The dance is lyrical, as Morrison moves across the screen, her echo follows, a constant, never-near-enough motion that blurs and fades as she dances. The piece is mesmerizing, an ode to memory and recognition. With a simple premise, solid camerawork, and trippy, over-extended visuals that are complemented by the stark background and minimalism, 100,000 People is just as many performances, wrapped up into one. 

Director Robert Smyth of Heavy Pictures collaborated with Director and Creative Director Casey McGrath (Night After Night) to concept and film two new videos for the new Kings Of Leon tracks, including 100,000 People, in the band’s hometown of Nashville, TN. The piece was captured entirely on film. 

Smyth says, “My original inspiration for this flim was the hand-cranked multiple exposure moments in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as Jean-Do lays dying, which was shot by Janusz Kaminski. I thought it was a long shot but I asked Janusz if he would shoot the videos...It turns out, Janusz is a Kings fan too.

Alongside Oscar-winning cinematographer, Kaminski, up-and-coming DP Nyk Allen, also helped with shooting this promo and Bandit. Both promos were edited by Adam Zuckerman.
