Known for her distinctive brand of comedy, character-focused narratives and stellar cinematic visuals, director Alicia MacDonald has joined The Corner Shop roster for commercial representation in the UK and US.

From the very beginning MacDonald excited audiences with her well-observed short films (Otherwise Engaged and Domestic Policy) and popular sketches (Bad News and Taxing) that demonstrated her impressive ability to balance comedic satire with grounded emotional depth. She went on to work with comedy giants Stephen Merchant (The Outlaws for BBC) and Lena Dunham (Too Much on Netflix) in  which she provided the same level of confidence and care in capturing nuanced and honest performances for high-end TV.

MacDonald is a formidable force in the world of advertising, bringing clever and profound insights into the brand world. Becoming one of the most sought after British directors in the industry, her cinematic commercial for TUI - Safety: A Global Film gained huge recognition at the British Arrows Awards and was listed in Campaigns Top five Ad’s of the Year and fifth Top Director of the Year in 2025. Her funny festive film for San Pellegrino that featured Diane Morgan and Stanley Tucci also was awarded for Branded Content at British Arrows this year.

Her hotly anticipated debut feature film Finding Emily (made with Working Title Films and Focus Features) is released in UK cinemas on 22nd May and in the US on 29th August. Set to be the romantic comedy we all need right now!

MacDonald says: "I am delighted to be popping to The Corner Shop! The work they do is so exciting and compelling and innovative. The people are excellent and of course, Heather Link is there so it feels a bit like coming home.”

The Corner Shop founder and executive producer Anna Hashmi adds, "Alicia’s comedy direction is kind of addictive to watch. She directs her characters and the situations with the right mix of comedy, awkwardness and cinema that makes her work stand out. She’s a natural, and we are very happy she has joined us."
