Armoury welcomes comedy director Phoebe Bourke

The comedy writer and director joins the Armoury roster for representation in the UK.
Writer and director Phoebe Bourke, whose award-winning comedy work spans live shows at Edinburgh, TV for platforms such as Channel 4 plus BAFTA and BFI’s LOCO short films, joins production company Armoury for representation in the UK.
Bourke's directing style leans into seemingly accidental and authentic humour, rather than people telling jokes. This approach is shaped by her deep understanding of scriptwriting and her experience working with some of the UK’s best comedy talent.
She has directed a wide range of scripted comedies for Sky, Dave, Channel 4, and the BBC, working with top talent like Jamali Maddix, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, and most recently directing Fern Brady's original comedy special for Netflix. She's also directed countless hours of live comedy, earning eight nominations at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, including a win for Rose Matafeo's stage show Horndog, recorded for HBO Max.
Bourke's thoughts on Armoury: “Armoury EP Matt Hichens and I have been in each other’s orbit for a while, trying to find ways to collaborate. We’ve come up with many hare-brained schemes, but sometimes you just have to wait for the right opportunity. It’s great when you meet other creatives you want to work with, and eventually, it all comes good. We’ve been able to prove that this is a great collaboration, and of course, we both love that.
One of the things I love about Armoury is that they keep it fun while still creating amazing work. It’s important for me to stay grounded in this industry and this approach helps because we’re not heart surgeons or rocket scientists —we’re just having fun, which I take very seriously.”
Hichens' thoughts on Bourke: “I have to agree with everything Bourke said about Armoury! We have been wanting to work with her for some time and now we have, all our hopes and dreams have been confirmed! Bourke really has 1st class degree in all things comedy. She genuinely knows her comedy ‘stuff’ from concept to script and has shown herself to be brilliant. Alongside this, it’s a pleasure to work with her. So for all these reasons, we are very happy and honoured to have Bourke joining us at Armoury.”
