Barclays spotlights how it helps families be a step ahead
Be a step ahead with Barclays Premier' demonstrates how Barclays Premier can help customers navigate the realities of modern family life.
Barclays, one of the UK's leading financial services providers, has unveiled its latest campaign Be a step ahead with Barclays Premier, highlighting how Barclays Premier helps Mass Affluent customers navigate increasingly complex financial decisions while balancing busy working and family lives.
Created by global agency of record VCCP, the integrated campaign responds to a banking category that increasingly competes for mass affluent customers through rewards and perks alone. Instead, Barclays Premier offers real financial support, including exclusive personalised financial planning and preferential mortgage and savings rates, giving customers the confidence to navigate life’s biggest financial decisions and be a step ahead.
The creative direction is rooted in the insight that mental load is the number one unmet need facing mass affluent customers, preventing this group from feeling like they can attain the future they envision for themselves and their loved ones. The campaign positions Barclays Premier as the unlock to this, easing financial overwhelm and helping them prepare for the future. Ultimately reframing Premier banking from superficial recognition to genuine enablement.
The omni-channel campaign spans TV, OOH, press, audio as well as social and influencer channels crafted by Born Social and in-branch and customer comms produced by EveryFriday and Oliver. It brings the proposition to life through real customer ambitions - from retiring early and supporting a loved one’s wedding, building a forever home or supporting your child’s business. Each execution demonstrates how Barclays Premier can help customers be a step ahead when preparing for the aspirations of the people they love.

The 30” hero film is directed by Gary Freedman through production company MJZ, in collaboration with VCCP’s content creation studio Girl&Bear. It opens on a busy commute before focusing on a grandfather walking against the crowd with his granddaughter on his shoulders as she happily covers his face with stickers. The film captures the joy of retiring early to spend more time with loved ones, demonstrating how Barclays Premier's free personalised financial planning can help customers prepare for the future they want. The campaign was ideated by Tom Dyson and Lance Boreham, overseen by Yan Elliott.
Inderjit Bassi, Chief Marketing Officer at Barclays UK, said: “Mass Affluent audiences are battling a high mental load and stresses of modern life. Barclays Premier combines expert support, personalised financial planning and exclusive benefits to help customers cut through the complexity. Our new omni-channel campaign brings to life the emotional benefit of being a step ahead; confidence, peace of mind and freedom in knowing you’re ready for life’s biggest moments. By reflecting real customer ambitions, we show how Barclays Premier can help people focus less on financial worries and more on what matters most. We want to help more customers feel confident about what is coming next, and to be a step ahead.”
Elliott, Creative Director at VCCP, said: “Many people feel like they should be better off, but in reality they are feeling financially squeezed and anxious. By making the most of an actionable financial plan, through Premier, Barclays wants to reduce the overwhelm and set them up, and those close to them, for a better future. That's the kind of future Barclays is backing.”
