Duran Sodré joins Eleanor US
The director behind Ashe Versus and Nuestros Manos brings his lyrical visual language and actor-led approach to the US via Eleanor’s celebrated roster.
Eleanor welcome Brazilian director Duran Sodré to its US roster.
With a body of work recognised for its poetic, human-centred visual storytelling, Sodré’s arrival marks a powerful new chapter for the production company’s stateside offering.
Sodré is best known for his internationally acclaimed work on Moderna x US Open’s Ashe Versus, a poignant tribute to civil rights icon and tennis legend Arthur Ashe, and the dynamic Nuestros Manos for Victoria, which honours culinary craftsmanship and cultural heritage through vibrant mixed media. These visually striking films have earned him awards and accolades from the Cannes Lions, D&AD, Ciclope, Clios, and UKMVAs.
A former actor himself, Sodré brings an intuitive and empathetic approach to directing performers. “As a bad actor in the past, I love to direct,” he says with trademark humility. “I know their insecurities. I know how to guide them to create good things and real things. I like to listen.”
That sense of listening, of watching with wonder, defines his directorial perspective. “I don’t like to judge things,” he explains. “I like to understand things. This is a feature of me, my way to live. It is why I am able to investigate things and collaborate on things.”
Sodré’s signature style, emotive, collaborative, and meticulously crafted, has earned him a reputation as a visual poet. Whether blending documentary realism with stylised flair, or coaxing sincere performances from seasoned actors and first-timers alike, his work leaves a lasting impact.
Now officially represented in the US by Eleanor, Sodré is energised by the creative vision he’s found in his new production home. “This urge to grow, this mission to evolve, I like that drive in the production company,” he shares. “I want to grow together. I’m excited to work in the American market.”
Sophie Gold, President of Eleanor, adds: “With a quiet humility and a fierce collaborative spirit, Sodré tells stories that unfold like poetry, each frame a study in humanity, intimacy, and instinct. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome him to Eleanor.”
