Ezra Collective are here because of hope

As Creative Director of Ezra Collective's Here Because of Hope album campaign, Ebeneza Blanche, through SMUGGLER, conceived and directed the project's overarching visual identity, including a series of music videos, an accompanying short film, moving portraits and photography across the campaign.

Designed as a visual extension of the album, the campaign translates Ezra Collective's sound into a cinematic world rooted in movement, culture, community and hope.

Drawing inspiration from the themes woven throughout the record, the project explores resilience, identity, heritage and transformation. Across the films, music and dance become a universal language, connecting stories through rhythm, emotion and shared experience. The work examines how people navigate adversity and find moments of joy, purpose and belonging, celebrating the power of community and self-expression in the face of life's challenges.

Visually, the campaign combines stylised cinematic storytelling with culturally grounded imagery, drawing from photography, documentary observation and fine art composition. Carefully crafted tableaux, symbolic details and dynamic movement create a rich visual language that feels both timeless and contemporary.

The first released chapter, Only Love, features Pa Salieu and follows a young pure water seller navigating the rhythms of everyday life in Lagos. Through themes of ancestry, culture and community, the film reflects the wider creative vision of Here Because of Hope a body of work that celebrates optimism, cultural pride and the enduring human capacity to move forward.
