Jun Diaz joins m ss ng p eces
The award-winning director brings his cinematic storytelling and comedic timing to the US commercial roster.
Production company m ss ng p eces has announced the addition of Jun Diaz to its directorial roster.
Known for his cinematic approach, Diaz combines great casting, performances, and sharp comedic timing in his work.
Diaz has directed campaigns for major brands including the NFL, IKEA, BMW, Samsung, Converse, Mastercard, and Heineken. He also gained attention for a series of films created for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards, which showcased his ability to infuse heart, soul, and storytelling into commercial projects.
His PSA Make Them Visible for the NYC Rescue Mission left a lasting impact, using hidden cameras to capture people walking past their disguised family members dressed as homeless individuals. The footage, which moved participants to tears, gained two million views in just three days and earned a spot on YouTube’s Top 20 Worldwide.
Half Filipino and half Japanese, Diaz was born in Tokyo and raised in Southeast Asia and East Africa before moving to the US to pursue filmmaking. Starting as an editor, he worked on films such as American Movie, Home Movie, and The Kid Stays in the Picture, for which he earned an A.C.E. nomination for Best Editing. Diaz transitioned into directing, forging a distinctive style celebrated across commercials and features.
“Kate, Ari, Brian, and the whole m ss ng p eces team have built a community,” said Diaz. “Creatively, I mesh so well with them. In some ways, I feel it’s a new beginning for me, because you can never truly begin until you find your people. I’m very excited to start this next chapter with them.”
Kate Oppenheim, managing partner of m ss ng p eces, remarked: “You can draw a straight line from the brilliant subtlety of Jun’s humour to how curious and thoughtful he is about human nature and the world around us. He’s open to inspiration regardless of where it comes from and fosters expressive environments and collaboration. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him to m ss ng p eces.”
