Abelone Films welcome Niklas Coskan as a new director to the roster.
Based in Berlin, Coskan brings a bold, narrative-led approach to filmmaking, defined by a sharp sense of humour, a love for the strange and offbeat, and a highly recognisable visual voice.
Coskan’s work is rooted in storytelling that feels both deliberate and playful. With a background in directing, art direction, and illustration, he approaches each project as a whole, combining cinematic thinking with graphic precision and a strong instinct for mood and rhythm.
He graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) in 2014 with a B.A. in Visual Communication, specialising in film and illustration, and has been working across different disciplines ever since.
Alongside his work as a director, Coskan maintains an active artistic practice. Influenced by subculture, horror films, skateboarding, and punk music, his art translates these references into a raw, tactile visual language. His work exists across different materials and forms and has developed its own independent presence, while also directly influencing the visual language of music videos he has directed, as well as other moving-image projects.
What sets Coskan apart is his ability to turn unconventional ideas into clear, engaging narratives. His films often balance humor with a strong visual concept, creating worlds that feel considered yet instinctive. In addition to his visual work, he brings strong experience in dialogue-driven storytelling, having directed a skit for the first episode of a ZDF show, as well as multiple episodes of the satirical YouTube series Browser Ballett in collaboration with ZDFneo. This narrative versatility is reflected in his commercial work for clients such as Adidas, FC Union Berlin, DAZN, BVG, and Holy Hydration, making his work especially appealing for brands and artists looking for character-driven, visually bold, and slightly unexpected storytelling.
“Niklas brings a rare combination of narrative clarity, visual confidence, and genuine curiosity for unusual ideas,” says Inga Schlüter, Executive Producer at Abelone Films. “He thinks like an artist but works with the precision of a director. That mix gives his projects a strong identity and a lot of energy, and we’re excited to see that voice grow within our roster.”
With a practice that moves fluidly between film and art, Coskan represents a contemporary directorial perspective that feels both crafted and instinctive. Abelone Films looks forward to collaborating closely with him on narrative-driven projects that stand out through humor, atmosphere, and a distinctive visual edge.
