Playlist: Dave Bostelman
This week we hear from Entropico's Senior Account Director Dave Bostelman, where he speaks on the sad fact that discoveries are now by algorithm, the death of AI slop, and his strange Britney Spears Spotify playlist...
What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?
Smerz - You Got Time And I Got Money. It's dreamy, a little silly, fun and simply makes me happy.
Good music videos don't need to be over the top, they just need to represent the song and the artist which hopefully leads to a connection with the audience.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?
Without a doubt, it is At the Drive-In - One Armed Scissor. TBH, it isn't even a great video clip, it's a simple edit of mixed grainy live footage but it captures a band in their prime with immense energy and showcases the power of a raw song.
I remember the first time I saw this clip. I would have been 14 years old, having stayed up late watching RAGE (Australia's version of 120 Minutes on MTV). Within seconds, I was hooked... Who was this band? What was this sound? It truly changed my musical taste and took me on a lengthy sonic discovery.

powered byWhat other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?
I tend to just watch the world go by or study the past for personal inspiration. However, on a daily basis my colleagues at Entropcio always amaze me with their skill and creative curiosity.
Special mention to Slippn, she's a young director on our roster whose understanding of street culture and story telling ability is incredible. She is destined for great things.
What are you listening to at the moment?
My current obsessions include the new records from Insecure Men, Elias Ronnenfelt and Dean Blunt, Robert Lester Foslom, FACS and finally a band from Australia called Dust, they're doing great things.
Outside of that I have been revisiting Hamilton Leithauser's back catalogue, alongside some Swans and Life Without Buildings. But if we're having a dinner party, Steely Dan is taking over the speakers.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use
Honestly, I'll keep it simple and go with my trusty iPhone 16 Pro and some wired headphones, I'd be lost without those two things.
What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?
YHWH Nailgun, FKA Twigs, and Rosalia as they are all incredible artists with powerful visions. I'd also be open to do anything weird with Nine Inch Nails, if Trent Reznor was to call, I would 100% pick up.
How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?
Discovery is now by algorithm, which is sad. I miss the days of buying a record for one song, appreciating the cover art, and discovering so much more. Staying up late to watch video clips or trawling YouTube for hours and randomly stumbling across your new favourite artist, sound, director, etc.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?
It's an interesting time for music videos as image and visual branding are so important for artists. I hope we continue to embrace the unique format of the music video, encouraging unique storytelling and personality. While finding meaningful platforms for the audience to engage with the content.
Let's say death to AI slop with both artists and videos, we have a responsibility to be better.
Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…
I have a playlist that repeats Britney Spears - Everytime 10,000 times, it runs for 639 hours.
