Superprime Films signs Diego Contreras
The Guatemalan-born director joins Superprime’s US roster, bringing his human-centred storytelling to the company.
Superprime Films has announced the signing of director Diego Contreras for US representation.
Known for his evocative imagery and ability to balance modernity with timelessness, Contreras creates work imbued with energy, introspection, and human grace. His visual language juxtaposes the immediacy of the present with echoes of a deeper, nostalgic past.
A former art director at BBDO NY, Anomaly, and CP+B, Contreras transitioned to full-time filmmaking in 2015. Since then, he has built a diverse body of work, spanning narrative shorts, music videos, and commercials for brands such as Apple, Facebook, Ford, Reebok, and PlayStation.
His projects frequently explore dualities that shape modern life, as seen in pieces like Community for Facebook, which celebrates the power of togetherness across cultures, and Amica’s More Human, a meditation on isolation in a tech-driven world. Contreras’s attention to detail and ability to build immersive worlds are evident in projects such as for the iPhone 13 Pro and Final Fantasy XVI: Requiem, where custom-built sets and soundtracks combine to create vivid, cinematic experiences.
“I’ve always been drawn to tell stories that spark real wonder while staying grounded in authentic human experience,” said Contreras. “Superprime shares my passion for crafting meaningful, beautifully crafted narratives, and I’m thrilled to join a team that values bold creativity and heartfelt humanity. Together, we’ll continue pushing visual boundaries while crafting stories that inspire and unite.”
Originally from Guatemala and now based in Los Angeles, Contreras often infuses his heritage and cultural identity into his films, offering a unique perspective. His work has earned accolades from Cannes Lions, Shots, Clios, The One Show, and Webby Awards. Known for his curiosity and originality, he immerses himself in fresh characters, meaningful dialogue, and fully realised worlds, leaving a lasting emotional impact.
Michelle Ross, founding partner of Superprime Films, commented: “We’ve been fans of Diego’s for a while now—his ability to fuse big cinematic moments with genuine human warmth is really special. We can’t wait to see where he takes that vision next, and we’re excited to bring his energy and heart to the Superprime family.”
