Taylormade golfers go dancin on the green
Director Matt Hoffman showcases the brand’s Stealth Iron clubs in the latest campaign produced by HB Films.
Matt Hoffman, the Award-winning director and founder of HB Films, has created a spot for Taylormade illustrating the beauty and precision required in golf by drawing a unique parallel to the similar principles required in dance featuring the new clubs from Taylormade: the Stealth Irons.
Set to the tune of Johann Strauss II's The Blue Danube Waltz, the film syncs the unmistakable swoosh and clink of a TaylorMade golf club swinging and then hitting a ball to the most recognisable snippet of the classic waltz. Much like the music it's set to, the commercial also starts slow and builds momentum throughout, adding a lively sense of humour and bringing attention to the inherent fun of playing a round of golf. Featuring a cast of amateur golfers, Hoffman's shots of a wide range of people enjoying themselves on the green invite the viewer to feel like they're tagging along for a few holes.
"TaylorMade is the brand that embodies golf's past, present, and future," says Hoffman. "Working on this film was an opportunity to break through and drop the constraints of the expected golf shots; it's an opportunity to celebrate the poetry of motion and physics that is golf."

Producer of the spot and Managing Partner of HB Films, John Beveridge, adds: "I have had the good fortune of working with Matt for a lot of my career, and without sounding too punny, any time he gets to direct a spot blending his love of sports and advertising, he knocks it out of the park. Sports aside, as a fan of well-made commercials, some of his favorite ads celebrate golf. We at HB Films are very proud to collaborate on this film which we're sure will join the cultural roster of iconic golf spots."
Hoffman, a self-proclaimed sports, tv, and advertising nerd has found a way to bring athleticism to his work as a director. His well-played and energizing shots can be seen in ads featuring pro athletes for Gatorade and Nike, as well as his recent spot for Michelob Light, which dramatised Katherine Switzer's historic running of the Boston Marathon in 1967.
