Food is truly a universal language, as this heart-warming spot for Dutch supermarket Plus demonstrates.
Created by JWT Amsterdam, the film tells the story of Ismail, a Syrian boy from a refugee family. At his new school he befriends Lucas, who introduces him to Dutch food in all its glory - from bitterballen (the classic deep-fried meat snack) to pickled herring with raw onions. The ad concludes with Ismail returning the favour and inviting Lucas to a traditional Syrian family meal at his home.
The spot was directed by Ismael ten Heuvel through Pink Rabbit Amsterdam.
