Sitting somewhere between a nature documentary and a sci-fi film, this mesmerising 14-minute short titled Wild Summon follows the perilous life of a salmon imagined in human form.
Set against the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland, the story seamlessly merges live-action footage with CGI animation, tracking the humanoid fish as she moves through a hostile environment shaped by predators, pollution and climate change.
Despite the character’s eerie, uncanny appearance, the creature's human form allows viewers to connect emotionally with the salmon’s arduous journey and constant struggle to survive.
Wild Summon was impressively written, directed, shot and CGI-animated by Karni & Saul through Sulkybunny, with help from their 14-year-old son Yuli Freed, who acted as the primary drone operator and aerial cinematographer during the shoot.
