A new signing at Not To Scale sees director and writer Sam Southward join the roster for international representation.
Southward is known for work that blends CG animation and live action, characterised by distinctive character design, humour and an interest in social themes. His commercial projects include work for Google, Milka and OPPO, using techniques ranging from interactive installations, such as a Google project at the World Economic Forum in Davos, to augmented reality experiences including The Gruffalo Spotter, created with Magic Light Pictures and Forestry England, which received a BAFTA nomination.
His recent short film ESC was awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick, while his breakout film After the End was selected for Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2015 and later won Gold at the Young Directors Awards. He has also completed his first children’s novel, All Fun and Games.
Dan O’Rourke, Founder and EP of Not To Scale, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Sam onto our roster. He brings a wide range of practical skills and filmmaking styles, and as both a writer and storyteller, Sam has a sharp understanding of comedy and the human condition. His instinct for levity and for what can make an audience smile is a rare and valuable skill, one I’m sure our clients will appreciate and be eager to draw upon.”
Southward said: “I am thrilled to be joining Not To Scale as I have been a keen fan of their work many years. Their laser focus on story and craft make our new partnership a perfect fit and joining the roster alongside such an incredible line up of directors is also a huge honour.”
With Southward’s addition, the company continues to expand its roster of directors and multidisciplinary artists, with a focus on bold and culturally resonant filmmaking.
