Playlist: Kasper Häggström
This week we speak with EXIT Director Kasper Häggström about looking to Jonathan Glazer for inspiration, playing Nintendo Swtich with his son, and meeting Tom Cruise in Prague.
What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?
Harry Styles - Aperture directed by Aube Perrie.
A simple idea executed brilliantly. I think Aube Perrie in general does a great job keeping his videos to a very high standard.

What’s the first music video you remember being impressed by?
It’s hard to say, but I remember seeing Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar, directed by Michel Gondry on Norwegian television as a teenager and being blown away.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?
It changes all the time so the boring answer is “too many to mention”. But I guess the director I’m coming back to the most is Jonathan Glazer for his works in feature films, music videos and commercials.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Similar answer. My taste in music is quite eclectic so it varies a lot. The last album I listened to (and enjoyed) was Soft Spot by the Norwegian band Honningbarna.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?
As films are getting harder to find/stream online, I find my Blu-Ray player to be very helpful at the moment. I also play a lot of Zelda and Smash bros with my son on our Nintendo switch.
So Blu-Ray and Nintendo.
What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?
The list is very long, but it’s really anyone with good music and an open mind. I haven’t done a rap or R&B video and would love to do that. My wife would be very happy if I managed to make a Solange video. So if you're reading this Solange!

How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?
I haven’t made enough videos to give you a good answer, but social media is definitely brought up more now then when I started. I also think the absence of Vimeo (how it used to be) has changed the community of directors making promos a bit. That used to be an exciting platform to post videos regardless of how famous the artist was.
Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?
It’s hard to say. I think regardless of how much social media and AI changes the world, musicians still need to look cool. And as for now I still think music videos are the best way to achieve that.
Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…
Contrary to popular belief, my life is pretty normal.
I once met Tom Cruise in Prague. I bet you didn’t know that!
