If you were lucky enough to be TV-watching in the late 90s/early 00s, there was barely an ad break or MTV setlist that didn't contain a Spike Jonze or Michel Gondry joint.
In his latest work for sportswear brand On, celebrating the brand's collaboration with Zendaya, Jonze seems to have harkened back to this heyday of short-form, taking a few playful in-camera techniques from his old sparring partner Gondry in the process.
Portraying the Shape of Dreams, specifically the actress's, the film takes Georges Méliès/Segundo de Chomón old-school trickery and puts it all in a playful, pseudo-stop-motion scenario.
Likeable, joyful and rammed with moments of charm, this delightful film from MJZ is a craft-lover's dream and a wonderful use of celebrity to boot.
