The Sweetshop introduce director Edward Housden to their Australian and New Zealand rosters.
Thoughtful and inventive, Housden has a strong instinct for comedic timing, blending understated performances with refined cinematic restraint. It’s all driven by a clear point of view and focus on craft. He’s a natural fit for The Sweetshop.
Greg Fyson, Global Head of Director Development, and co-Managing Director of The Sweetshop Australia adds “Edward is one of those rare directors whose work feels both ef ortless and deeply considered. Talented as he is tall… I am very excited for what's to come.”
With strong experience in both commercial and shortform work, Housden has a flair for creating work that turn everyday moments into distinctive, engaging storytelling. Working with agencies like Adam & Eve, DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi, Mother and BBH, Housden has created work for the likes of Esso, Stella Artois, Captain Morgan, Nivea, and local brands like Seek.
“It was obvious from his work that he has a strong grasp of comedy, and even better to discover he’s such a genuinely lovely human too.” says Edward Pontifex, co-Managing Director of The Sweetshop Australia
On joining The Sweetshop, Housden adds: “I’m very excited to join the sweet people at the Sweetshop. It’s such a great team to be a part of. We’ve already jumped into some really fun work together and I can’t wait to see what’s around the corner.”
His short film Muscles premiered as an Official Selection at Cannes, before going on to screen at festivals such as SXSW and BFI London. Housden’s commercial work has also garnered attention within the global award circuit, and has been recognised at D&AD, Cannes Young Director Award, Ciclope and the British Arrows, to name a few.
"It's great to have new talent of Edward's calibre joining The Sweetshop, we look forward to Edward weaving his magic in New Zealand very soon." says Ben Dailey, MD/EP of The Sweetshop New Zealand
