Wealthsimple's sluggish hero

With New Year resolutions already failing and the stark reality of normality slapping us in the face, it's easy to forget that everyone has their own cross to bear.

Putting this message across in a delightfully slimy form is Martin de Thurrah's latest collaboration with Wealthsimple and its in-house creative team, in which a Sluggish narrator puts his own challenges behind him.

Aided by smart VFX from Baconx and a charming VO, the Epoch Films director's tale of woe is as rousing as it is running with residue.

“Hearing the slug describe a rock as if it was some kind of impossible mountain reminds us that everything in life is in perspective,” remarks de Thurah. “Human life is an eternal struggle in which every challenge we overcome delivers us to the start of a new challenge. It sounds exhausting, and sometimes it is, but it is also filled with the tantalizing light of hope. That sense of slow progress—illusory or not—gives our lives purpose.”
