Directed by Juraj Janis through Take Two, this stark and affecting short film for Pride Bratislava exposes how Slovakia is rolling back equal rights for queer people.
Titled Backwards, the non-profit film uses rewound footage as a visual metaphor for the country moving backwards in its treatment of LGBTQ+ people and denying them equal rights as citizens.
Each cinematic, intimate vignette features real queer people in Slovakia, with a reflective voiceover underscoring how a return to fear, shame and hate affects them as individuals and as a community.
