Titled Quotes, the striking campaign turns the words of press freedom’s biggest opponents against themselves. Figures such as Nicolás Maduro, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Ali Hosseini Khamenei are featured with statements like “The press is garbage”, “The media is a terror channel,”, exposing how those who fear scrutiny are the loudest critics of free press.
The free press is the lifeblood of democracy, which is exactly why it is targeted by autocrats,” said Sylvie Ahrens-Urbanek, Head of Communications at RSF Germany. “With this campaign, we reclaim their hatred and turn it into a call to action. By revealing who stands against press freedom, we invite the public to stand for it.
