Aiming to reduce the impact that lack of access to period products has on young students, this campaign for Somos Martina includes a thought-provoking film directed by Claudia Barral Magaz through Demente.

Supported by the Colombian Vice Minister of Education, the initiative takes advantage of the mandatory use of school uniforms by launching The Period Uniform, which incorporates period underwear into part of the uniform.

Across Latin America, one in four girls regularly misses school due to a lack of sanitary products and the deep-rooted stigma around menstruation. Periods are often not even discussed at home, which makes it difficult for girls to ask for support. Without protection, many of them stay home to avoid leaks and the shame that comes with them.

Period underwear is not only a non-invasive healthy option for women and girls, eliminating the skin irritation and risks associated with pads or tampons, but it’s also offers a lifespan of up to three years, being significantly more affordable and environmentally sustainable than single-use alternatives.
