Canadian production company Spy Films welcome award-winning director Evan Bourque to its roster for Canadian representation.

Known for finding humour in awkward interactions and offbeat moments of humanity, Bourque combines nuanced performances, sharp dialogue and eccentric characters with a polished cinematic style. His background as a cinematographer brings a strong visual sensibility to his character-driven comedy.

Bourque’s commercial credits include work for Amazon, McCafe, Mitsubishi, Geico, Squarespace, Western Union, Priceline, Metrolinx UP Express and Salt Spring Coffee. His Geico film, Igor Loves His Car, won Silver for Creative Use of Humour at the 2023 Young Director Awards, while Hammr Time was shortlisted across three categories the previous year. More recently, Bourque was shortlisted for New Director of the Year at the 2025 shots Awards, and his work for Eat Pecans earned a Silver Telly Award in 2025 and again in 2026.

“What drew us to Evan is how naturally the humour comes through in his work, honest, nuanced, a little offbeat in the best way, and never forced. He's a great fit for SPY, and we're thrilled to have him on board,” says Liam Benstead, Executive Producer at SPY.

The partnership brings Bourque’s distinctive comedic voice to SPY’s Canadian roster and creates new opportunities to pair his performance-led storytelling with collaborators across the country.

“I’ve admired SPY’s work for a long time so joining their roster feels pretty special. It’s like joining a band you grew up listening to. They consistently put out ambitious, memorable films and I’m stoked to be part of the mix and make some great work together,” says Bourque.

Bourque’s arrival adds a fresh comedic perspective to SPY’s directorial offering, strengthening the company’s ability to deliver memorable, character-driven work with both humour and cinematic craft.
