Fronted by Swedish rapper-turned-actor Yung Lean, this music video produced by Iconoclast for Gener8ion’s double single Storm casts him as a menacing ringleader in a dystopian educational establishment.
With “Class of 2034” banners hinting at the future, but adult authority nowhere to be found, the school is ruled by intimidation, with Lean’s magnetic bully pushing his peers toward violence, darkly comics dares, crazy chemistry sessions and drug-fuelled submission.
Gavras trades narrative clarity for visceral unease, creating a glimpse into a scarily plausible social hierarchy.
Kudos to Damien Jalet for superb movement direction that builds throughout, finally offering a switch in tone when a formal school portrait on the steps mutates into a strikingly choreographed sequence with the lads contorting around a chillingly motionless Lean as he draws on a cheeky ciggie.
