Told from the heartbreaking perspective of those who suffer most when crisis strikes at Christmas, this poignant campaign, made by Make It Simple for Christian charity the Salvation Army, urges viewers to help the children of struggling Finnish families.
Helmed by award winning director Jakob Ström and produced by Juha-Matti Nieminen of Directors Guild, The Wait centres around an expectant young girl on Christmas Eve.
The film draws on the Finnish tradition, as in everywhere in Scandinavia, that Santa Claus personally visits homes to give presents to kids. As the hopeful protagonist waits patiently for the big man in red to arrive, she catches a glimpse of him through the letterbox, only to watch him disappear into the house next door and never return.
The film shows how heart-wrenchingly painful it is when hope is lost, and calls on viewers to offer hope to children through The Salvation Army Finland's Christmas Kettle, which helps Finnish families facing economic challenges.
